Marion "Roger" Powell
Marion "Roger" Powell Obituary
Marion "Roger" Powell, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026, due to chronic medical conditions. Born on May 2, 1951, Roger lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Leila Elizabeth Morgan Powell and Robert Terry Powell, and his sister, Pauline "Polly" Romans.
After graduating from Rosman High School in 1969, Roger proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued his tenure at DuPont for 33 years until 1999. In retirement, he embraced a simple and peaceful life, finding joy in spending time at home and pursuing his passion for woodworking. He was especially gifted in the intricate art of intarsia, creating beautiful works that reflected his patience, creativity, and attention to detail. Roger also enjoyed camping and cherished the memories of time spent at Twin Lakes Family Campground in South Carolina.
Roger was a quiet, gentle, and loving soul whose greatest happiness came from being with those he loved. He was a devoted husband to his wife of nearly 30 years, Marcia "Colleen" Powell, whose love and companionship brought him immeasurable joy. One of their many special songs was "Give Me That Wink," a reminder of the playful love they shared over the years. In his final days, Roger was lovingly cared for by Colleen. They spent precious time together listening to gospel music and simply being together. The family finds comfort in knowing that Roger has been welcomed into the arms of his Savior and is now free from pain and illness.
Roger is survived by his wife, Marcia Colleen Powell; his daughter, Elise Keever and her husband, Patrick; his stepson, Jacob Zaludek and his wife, Cortlan; his beloved grandchildren, Michael Keever, Jack, Max, and Avery Zaludek; his sister, Dorene "Doe" Mahoney; and his brother, Ricky Dean Powell. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Roger loved the Lord and faithfully attended church services for many years until declining health no longer allowed him to attend. His quiet faith guided his life and gave him peace throughout his illness.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
