Daniel Pitts Elliott died on July 11, 2026, just shy of his 101 st

birthday. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Aug. 13, 1925, to

Enola Rantz and LMarr Elliott, Dan served in the Army Combat Engineers in Europe during WWII, earned degrees from LSU and Georgia State University, and retired as a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Cost Engineer.

After LSU, Dan moved to Severna Park, Maryland, where he met

and married Barbara (Babs) Bixler in 1954. An avid woodworker and sailor, he built his National One Design sailboat, Mint Julip, and went on to be East Coast Champion for several years and was a charter member of Severn Sailing Association.

Dan spent most of his career as a cost estimator with an Atlanta

consulting firm on industrial plant projects in the U.S. and abroad.

He was named "Engineer of the Year in Private Practice" by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, founded the Atlanta Chapter of the American Association of Cost Engineers, and later served as national president.

In Atlanta, Dan and Barbara served their community and were founding members of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, which was central to their spiritual lives. Dan also volunteered with Scottish Rite Hospital's Mission group.

After moving to Brevard, N.C. in 1998, Dan served on the TRH Foundation, TRH Auxilliary and Connestee HOA boards, was active at

St. Philip's Episcopal Church, the Pastoral Care Committee and The Shop of St. Philip's.

Dan had a deep love for his family and treasured spending time with them. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara and his children, Pamela Elliott Watson (Brad), and Scott Elliott (Melissa), three grandchildren, Brendan Elliott (Taylor), Kevin Elliott (Emma) and Kathleen Elliott and his great-grandsons, Charles Bixler Elliott and Brooks Daniel Elliott. He is also survived by his niece, Patricia Elliott and nephews, Douglas Elliott (Yanna) and Donald Elliott (Trish) and great-nephew Todd Elliott (Kelsey).

Memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 2 p.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brevard.
