Charles A. Snyder, 90, who as a boy lived in what is now Sherwood Forest near Cedar Mountain, died July 11, 2026, in a hospital near his Fletcher, N.C. home. He was born July 18, 1935, in Greenville and died on July 11, 2026, in a hospital near his Fletcher home. During his childhood, 1200-acre tract was owned by the Little River Land Company, whose principals were his father, Ted Snyder and Ben Geer, for whom the Geer Highway (US 276) was named. After fire destroyed the Robin Hood Inn, built on the property by his father, the family moved in 1944 to a farm outside Walhalla, S.C., where Charles and his three brothers grew up. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he served for 21 years with distinction in the Air Force, both in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and in the Strategic Air Command as a missile officer, including the SAC around-the-clock Looking Glass mission, allowing control of the nation's intercontinental bomber and missile forces as directed by the President, should ground control become inoperable. While in the Air Force, he earned a MBA at Ohio State, a MS in Economics at South Dakota State and a PhD from the University of Nebraska.

After retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1977, he became a professor at Auburn University, from which he retired after 28 years as Woodruff Professor Emeritus, with teaching focused on Management Information Systems. While at Auburn, he was a consultant to AT&T, BellSouth, TRW, Coors and various software companies.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margrit, a German exchange student to whom he was devoted from the day they met in Monroe, Georgia. Also surviving are a brother, John; two sons, Charles Reiner (Pam) and Christopher (Colleen); two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Snyder and two brothers, Ted Jr. and Henry.
